Nest of Gold

2026

Cattail leaves; cattail pollen; photograph on canvas; photographs on organic hemp cotton; thread; and muslin dyed with foraged oak leaves and black beans. Cattails collected on a walk through a creek by the artist and two of her children. Together they wove the cattails into a mat. A pillow, filled with cattail pollen, is tied to the cattail leaves. The back of the pillow is blue muslin, hand-dyed with oak leaves and black beans; the front is two photographs printed on hemp cotton, woven together and sewn to a photograph printed on canvas. The image shows two figures sitting in the snow, surrounded by cattails. The two figures are covered with a blue circle quilt. Their legs and feet can be seen poking out from beneath the covering.
